Pick a sweeter apple for this dish to help balance the tartness of the cranberries. In place of the apple, you can use peaches, pears, plums, nectarines or blueberries. Make extra oatmeal for busy mornings during the week. For variety, make a batch without the fruit and use different fruit daily. If you’d prefer, you can leave out the brown sugar or substitute it with a local honey.
Method
In medium pot, bring 2 cups water and milk to a boil. Add oats and wheat bran and cook about 3-5 minutes.
Stir in diced apple, cranberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and cloves.
Cook for an additional 3 minutes or until oatmeal reaches desired consistency.
